New Recreational Trails

On June 5, 2003 , Secretary of the Interior Norton designated 23 new national recreation trails in 12 states to support the Bush Administration's “Healthier US ” initiative to develop community partnerships aimed at encouraging physical fitness.

Agriculture Secretary Veneman also announced the designation of four new national recreation trails in forests located in California , Nevada , North Dakota , and Virginia —adding 288 miles to the system of nationally significant and recognized trails.
