New Recreational Trails
On June 5, 2003 , Secretary of the Interior Norton designated 23 new national recreation trails in 12 states to support the Bush Administration's Healthier US initiative to develop community partnerships aimed at encouraging physical fitness.
Agriculture Secretary Veneman also announced the designation of four new national recreation trails in forests located in California , Nevada , North Dakota , and Virginia adding 288 miles to the system of nationally significant and recognized trails.
