Pesticide Risk Assessment

In 2002, EPA released the revised cumulative risk assessment report of organophosphate pesticides for review and public comment. Organophosphates are a group of closely related pesticides that affect the functioning of the nervous system. EPA is evaluating over 1,000 organophosphate pesticide food tolerances to make sure food safety standards are met. EPA also achieved agreement among a broad group of stakeholders to an amended consent decree in a case concerning the use of pesticides in farming practices. The changes will guarantee new opportunities for public participation and additional external review of critical pesticide decisions aimed at protecting health and safety.
