Addressing Global Climate Change
Natural Gas Supply
The Bush Administration has taken several steps to expand access to clean and affordable domestic
natural gas supplies, including (1) proposing royalty relief for natural gas recovered from deep gas
formations in the Gulf of Mexico to spur additional supply; (2) supporting research and development
efforts into natural gas recovery from methane hydrates, which could meet world energy needs for
centuries to come; and (3) hosting a natural gas summit in June 2003 which focused on problems and
solutions in natural gas markets, and identified actions that can be taken immediately to ease short-term
natural gas supply constraints.
