Asthma Research Strategy
In October 2002, EPA released its Asthma Research Strategy, a long-term plan for research on asthma health issues that supplements and expands on other U.S. government efforts to better understand this complex disease. The strategy will strengthen the scientific foundation of the EPA risk assessments and actions that affect asthmatic populations. As part of this strategy, EPA researchers have already published a ground-breaking study on the possible role metals in air pollution play in exacerbating asthma.
