U.S. – Russia Polar Bear Agreement
President Bush signed the Polar Bear Agreement in October 2001. This agreement was endorsed by Audubon Alaska , the Alaska Nanuuq Commission, the Alaska Department of Wildlife Management, and top research scientists. The U.S. – Russia Polar Bear Agreement will prevent the exploitation and illegal harvesting of polar bears, while ensuring their survival through science-based conservation and management. It is now awaiting the advice and consent of the Senate.
