U.S. Russia Polar Bear Agreement
President Bush signed the Polar Bear Agreement in October 2001. This agreement was endorsed by Audubon Alaska , the Alaska Nanuuq Commission, the Alaska Department of Wildlife Management, and top research scientists. The U.S. Russia Polar Bear Agreement will prevent the exploitation and illegal harvesting of polar bears, while ensuring their survival through science-based conservation and management. It is now awaiting the advice and consent of the Senate.
