Welcome to "Ask the White House". This online interactive forum, the first of its kind in politics, allows you to interact with Bush administration officials and friends of the White House.

Launched in April 2003, citizens have participated in over 400 online discussions with Cabinet Secretaries, Senior White House Officials, behind-the-scenes professionals at the White House, and others.

Transcripts of every live chat session are available on this page. If you would like to suggest a participant to appear on Ask the White House, click here.

Good afternoon, everyone. It's great to be here. I'm delighted to be able to take your questions on the American economy. Let's get started.

Dr. Zalmay Khalilzad, United States Ambassador to Iraq

I am honored to be here to participate in Ask the White House. I am here to get guidance and consult with our leaders. I met with the President this morning. ... I am also participating in a number of press events to explain to the American people what we are doing in Iraq and the progress that we are making and the challenges that lie ahead.

Mrs. Laura Bush, First Lady

Thanks for joining the web chat today and for your interest in Helping America's Youth. This Thursday, October 27, I will host the White House Conference on Helping America's Youth at Howard University, here in Washington, DC. I think this will be a terrific conference and will bring together educators, faith-based and community leaders, researchers, students and parents who will share stories of programs and methods that are working to make a positive difference in the lives of children.

Tom Luce, Assistant Secretary of the Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development at the U.S. Department of Education

Thanks for the opportunity to answer your questions today. On Wednesday, the Nation's Report Card was released, showing steady growth and gains by America's schoolchildren. The results, from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) 2005 exam of fourth- and eighth-graders in reading and math, show that real progress is being made in helping to ensure the promise of No Child Left Behind.

Carlos Gutierrez, Secretary of Commerce

It’s my pleasure to join you today for my second Ask the White House online discussion.
