With cameras from the entire world watching, President George W. Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush greet Mexican President Vicente Fox and his wife Martha Sahagun de Fox to this administration's first State Dinner at the White House Sept. 5. Escorted by President and Mrs. Bush past a military honor guard, President Fox and his wife Martha Sahagun de Fox enter the White House through it's North entrance, which is reserved for formal occasions.
Mexican President Vicente Fox and his wife Martha Sahagun de Fox talk privately with President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush on the Truman Balcony of the White House before greeting guests at the state dinner Wednesday evening. After the dinner, the two couples and their friends watched fireworks from the balcony. Walking hand in hand, President Bush, Mrs. Laura Bush and Mexican President Vicente Fox and Mrs. Fox descend the residential staircase to the state dinner held in President Fox's honor at the White House Wednesday evening. "A long border lies between us, but it does not divide us," said President Bush during his State Dinner remarks.
Leading their wives in the first dance of the evening, Presidents Bush and Fox take to the floor during the state dinner Wednesday evening. Presidents Fox and Bush toast each other at the state dinner Wednesday evening at the White House. During their remarks following the salutations, President Fox remarked that he was "honored, pleased to be here, close to my friend, Jorge." In his remarks, President Bush said Fox's visit was "like a family gathering."
"(We are) partners looking for prosperity to both of our nations," said President Fox addressing guests at the state dinner held in his honor. As explosions of color light up the night sky and the glowing faces of guests, the two first couples watch fireworks from the Truman Balcony.
