Leadership and Opportunity in Africa
President George W. Bush talks with President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria during a G8 Summit working session in Evian, France, June 1, 2003. The G8 leaders and the leaders of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) highlighted greater cooperation between the G8 and NEPAD and discussed challenges and opportunities going forward. President Bush and President Obasanjo are working together to forge an African Action Plan that removes obstacles of trade barriers, illiteracy, infectious disease, unsustainable debt and hunger. President Bush and President Obasanjo agreed that such a partnership must be based on mutual respect and responsibility.
