President Discusses Marriage Protection Amendment
President George W. Bush delivers a statement on the Marriage Protection Amendment in the Presidential Hall of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive Office Building Monday, June 5, 2006. "In 1996, Congress approved the Defense of Marriage Act by large bipartisan majorities in both the House and the Senate, and President Clinton signed it into law." said the President. "And since then, 19 states have held referendums to amend their state constitutions to protect the traditional definition of marriage.
