The Distinguished Service Cross is awarded to a person who while serving in any capacity with the U.S. Army distinguished himself or herself by extraordinary heroism. After Lt. Bail’s aircraft took heavy anti-aircraft fire that killed the pilot and wounded other crew members over the English Channel on June 5, 1944, Lt.
