Application deadline. Application must be postmarked on or before this date to be accepted.

First Week in March
Regional finalist selection. Applicants are notified by mail whether they have been selected as regional finalists, and of the time and location for regional interviews.

March/April
Regional finalist interviews. Selection panels convene for 1 1/2-day regional finalist interviews in approximately 10 cities across the United States. Every effort is made to schedule interviews as close to finalists' homes as possible, while distributing the finalists in a balanced way among the panels. Finalists are responsible for all expenses associated with the regional interviews, including travel.

First Week in May
Notification of national finalists. National finalists selected from the regional interviews are notified by mail. All national finalists are required to complete extensive security forms and to undergo background investigations before proceeding with the selection process.

Third Weekend in June
National finalist interviews. National finalists are interviewed over a 3 1/2-day period (Thursday to Sunday) by the members of the President's Commission on White House Fellowships at a location near Washington, DC. Expenses are paid by the Commission.

Early June
Selection announcement. The President announces recipients of the White House Fellowships.

June/July
Placement week. Fellows interview with principals in government agencies to determine their work assignments for the year. Expenses are paid by the commission.

September 1 to August 31
Inclusive dates of the fellowship year.
