Years of neglect from Saddam’s regime destroyed the country’s education infrastructure. While Saddam was building palaces to himself, Iraq’s children suffered. This school yard is an example of the need for facility rehabilitation.
Iraqi boys and girls are excited to learn in their first year of school without Saddam.
In addition to neglect, Saddam stored weapons and artillery in many schools. Saddam’s soldiers also destroyed schools during the war as they used them as a base. Schools and other buildings were also looted.
