Admiral Edmund P. Giambastiani, Jr. returns a salute from Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Peter Pace, Friday, July 27, 2007, during a retirement ceremony for Giambastiani at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. "On the 3rd of June, 1970, Edmund Giambastiani, Jr. became an officer -- raising his right hand and swearing to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic," said Vice President Dick Cheney during the ceremony, adding, "He has been faithful to that oath, and he has earned the satisfaction of this moment. We honor this leader of distinction for his 37 years of commissioned service; for his lifetime of achievement; and for the sterling example he leaves to us all."
