F.D. Roosevelt: Purchased by his father James 15 years before his birth, President Franklin Roosevelt's lifelong home was a large frame house called "Springwood" in Hyde Park, New York. The previous owner had built a three story tower and full length porch, but James Roosevelt added two rooms, enlarged the servants' wing, and built a large carriage house for his horses and carriages.
