Iraqis Form a Diverse Interim Government
Iraq Fact of the Day

The Interim Iraqi Government reflects the ethnic, religious, and geographic diversity of Iraq. The 33-member cabinet includes five regional leaders and six women. Prime Minister Iyad Allawi survived assassination attempts by Saddam's regime, was trained as a physician and has worked as a businessman. President Ghazi Al-Yawar is an engineer from northern Iraq. Dr. Ibrahim Jaafari, a physician born in Karbala, and Dr. Rowsch Shaways, a prominent political and military leader, were named as the two Deputy Presidents. On June 30, Iraq's sovereignty will be transferred to this diverse group of interim leaders, who will work to prepare Iraq for a democratic and prosperous future.
