Iraq's Governing Council Remembers Those Killed in Arbil
Iraq Fact of the Day
To remember the more than 100 people killed in twin suicide bomb attacks on Sunday and as a show of solidarity with those who lost loved ones in the blasts, members of the Iraqi Governing Council traveled to Arbil on Tuesday. The Iraqi leaders, representing all regions of the country and all major ethnic groups, attended funeral services and met with families of those killed. The victims were mostly from the Kurdish region of Iraq that was brutalized by Saddam Hussein's regime. The Governing Council's gesture is an important sign of respect among ethnic groups in Iraq, as well as how Iraq's leaders are standing together as they develop a new democracy in their country.
