Excerpts from the Press Briefing by Scott McClellan, September 10, 2003 (Full Transcript)

QUESTION: The second question has to do with Cuba. Yesterday, the House of Representatives approved various amendments -- lifting some of the restrictions and embargoes, administrations had on Cuba for nearly 40 years. The Senate still has to vote on it. I understand the White House has threatened to veto it if it becomes law. Are you going to try to stop it in the Senate?

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, obviously, we continue to work with Congress. The President's position on the embargo remains unchanged, he is strongly committed to it until there is freedom of elections and freedom of speech and freedom for political prisoners.
