The U.S. is spending $100 million to help eastern African
nations to increase their counter-terror efforts.
The U.S. and South Africa are working to strengthen South
Africa's border security and law enforcement.
The U.S. is committed to helping the people of Africa
defeat hunger. In 2003, the U.S. will provide almost $1 billion to
address food emergencies.
The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) is creating
jobs and stimulating investment across the continent. In South Africa,
exports to the United States have increased by 45 percent over the past
year.
South Africa has increased its budget to fight HIV/AIDS.
The U.S. will spend $15 billion over the next five years in the global
fight against AIDS.
