President Bush Nominates Sean O'Keefe as Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate Sean O'Keefe to be Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

Sean O'Keefe is presently the Louis A. Bantle Professor of Business and Government Policy at the Syracuse University, Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Prior to joining the faculty at Syracuse, he was a professor of Business Administration at Pennsylvania State University. He was appointed Secretary of the Navy by President George H. W. Bush in 1992 and had previously served as Comptroller and Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Defense. Before joining the Defense Department, he served on the staff of the United States Senate Committee on Appropriations for eight years, and was Staff Director of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. In 1993, he was awarded the Distinguished Public Service Award by President George H. W. Bush and then-Secretary of Defense, Dick Cheney.

Professor O'Keefe is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, and received his bachelor's degree from Loyola University in New Orleans. He received his Masters in Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. He presently resides in upstate New York with his wife and three children.
