Mrs. Lynne Cheney meets with Mrs. Schbe Musharraf, wife of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, in Islamabad, Pakistan December 20, 2005. The Vice President and Mrs. Cheney visited Pakistan to discuss US relief efforts and survey the damage following the 7.6 magnitude earthquake of October 8, 2005. The quake occurred in one of the most mountainous and inaccessible regions of Pakistan, took more than 73,000 lives and left 2.8 million people homeless. As of December 2005 the US had responded to the disaster by providing winterized shelter for over 31,000 families and pledging a total of $510 million in relief and reconstruction efforts.
