On Monday, March 24, President and Mrs. Bush hosted the annual White House Easter Egg Roll from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the South Lawn of the White House. Activities on the Ellipse began at 7:30 a.m. with food and entertainment for all children. Children age seven and under participated in the official White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn. For all family members, there was live entertainment from the pop-rock band the Jonas Brothers, Mickey Mouse, and several other stage performers. There were also activities to highlight this year's educational theme, "Ocean Conservation," including marine life painting with the artist Wyland.
Special guest readers included sportscaster and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman, children's book authors Ms. Nancy Tafuri and Ms. Rosemary Wells, and Kyle Massey, star of the hit television show "Cory in the House." The Cat in the Hat, Tweety Bird, Charlie Brown, Clifford the Big Red Dog, the Official White House Easter Bunnies, and many other strolling characters entertained children on the South Lawn.
Laura and I send greetings to all those celebrating the joyful holiday of Easter. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ reminds people around the world of the presence of a faithful God who offers a love more powerful than death. Easter commemorates our Savior's triumph over sin, and we take joy in spending this special time with family and friends and reflecting on the many blessings that fill our lives. During this season of renewal, let us come together and give thanks to the Almighty who made us in His image and redeemed us in His love.

The 2008 Easter Egg Collection continues the tradition that began in 1994 where each state sends a decorated egg to the White House for display. Artists from across the United States created the decorated eggs, which represent each state and the District of Columbia. Each year the artists vote amongst themselves to select the artist to create the following year's commemorative egg which is presented to the President and First Lady. The collection is coordinated by the American Egg Board. Learn More...
