Advancing Justice Through DNA Technology DNA technology is increasingly vital to ensuring accuracy and fairness in the criminal justice system. DNA can be used to identify criminals with incredible accuracy when biological evidence exists, and DNA can be used to clear suspects and exonerate persons mistakenly accused or convicted of crimes. |

Funding The President's DNA Initiative, Advancing Justice Through DNA Technology, calls for $232.6 million in federal funding for FY 2004. This includes $100.7 million in new funding. In addition, as part of the $232.6 million, the Justice Department is targeting $13.5 million in FY 2004 funding from existing programs within the Office of Justice Programs to support the DNA Initiative.*
