In Service to Community and Country
President Bush accepts the annual Report to the Nation by representatives of the Boy Scouts of America in the Oval Office March 2, 2004. On that same day a program was announced that will soon allow Iraqi children to participate in an Iraqi Boy Scout and Girl Scout program. The history of scouting in Iraq dates back to 1921, but all programs were terminated in the Saddam Hussein era. The initiative is backed by the World Scouting Organization, the Arab Scout Organization and about 100 former scouters now serving in Iraq.
