Interior Stairways Photos

The stairwells and their domes or rotundas have been restored to their original paint colors. The floor plan is laid out with a dome-covered stairwell at each building corner and a rotunda-covered double stairwell. There are a total of eight monumental circular stairwells in the building. The four corner monumental stairs extend from the ground floor to the fourth floor. The two pair of monumental stairs on the east and west ends of the center hallway extend from the ground floor to the fifth floor. The stairs are made of solid granite slabs that are set into the wall and then extend out over the stairwell below. The mahogany railing is supported by over 4,000 solid bronze balusters.

The stairs and hallways have been restored to their original state. Here is one of the two matching south stairwells.
