The visit was to highlight the importance of historical preservation and celebrate the role immigration has played in America. The tour led by the museum's Vice President of Public Affairs, Mr. David Eng. Mrs. Bush said that it is important for all Americans to remember where we have come from and reflect on our history. She added that the museum makes it possible for visitors to see the past and remind us of our heritage in a diverse, thriving and immigrant culture.

The museum received a Preserve America Presidential Award in may and was awarded a National Medal for Museum and Library Services last month for its work in helping to preserve the immigrant history that shapes our country.
