Government Oversight

Q: Does the IG have a role in agency implementation of the President's Management Agenda?

A: Although IGs are prohibited from carrying out agency program operations responsibilities, they can contribute through other means. Depending on the needs of the individual agency, an IG can offer feedback on the scorecard measures and verify and validate the measures and processes. The IG can also work to examine operations and programs where the opportunity for advancing the agenda would be the greatest.

The IG community is working individually and collectively with agency management to address financial management initiatives such as the Administration's requirement for agencies to submit audited financial statements on an accelerated basis. This work may involve the streamlining of agency processes and/or upgrading of financial information systems in order to provide more timely and useful information to agency management for better decision making and planning.
