Mrs. Laura Bush welcomes attendees of the 2008 Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards on July 14, 2008 in the White House East Room. The awards are given in various disciplines such as communications, architecture, landscape, product, interior, fashion and people's design as well as in lifetime achievement, corporate achievement, special jury commendation. The awards are a tool to increase national awareness of design by promoting excellence, innovation and lasting achievement.
