July 16, 2007
Remarks by Mrs. Bush, and Mrs. Kaczynska, First Lady of the Republic of Poland, After a Tour of Modernism Exhibition
Corcoran Gallery of Art
Washington, D.C.
12:00 P.M. EDT
MRS. BUSH: Well, I wanted to take this chance to welcome to Mrs.
Kaczynska to Washington. President Bush and I just had a very lovely
time with them in Poland at their Camp David, their presidential
retreat. And so I was really looking forward to having this chance to
return the hospitality to Mrs. Kaczynska and have her join me here.
We've just had this great opportunity to see this show, and I want to encourage people in Washington and visitors to Washington to come to the Corcoran. This show closes at the end of the month. It's Modernism. It's still, even though it's from around the turn of the last century and the first few decades of the last century, very, very contemporary. Everything here looks very modern. So I want to urge people to come see the show before it closes.
There are a number of Polish pieces here, as well as American pieces, so this was a great show for Mrs. Kaczynska and me to see together, because the pieces here represent both of our countries.
So welcome to the United States. And thank you for joining me here at the Corcoran museum.
MRS. KACZYNSKA: Thank you very much. I'm very happy to meet Mrs. Laura Bush again. I have really enjoyed it, since this is my first visit to Washington. I have had the opportunity to see the White House today, to see modern -- really very, very interesting exhibition in this museum.
Thank you.
MRS. BUSH: Thanks, everybody. Thank you all for coming out. Appreciate it.
END 12:02 P.M. EDT
