President Bush to Welcome Prime Minister Ahern of Ireland
To commemorate Saint Patrick's Day, President Bush will host Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern at the White House on March 16, 2007. In keeping with tradition, they will first participate in the "Shamrock Ceremony," symbolizing the close ties of friendship between the United States and Ireland. After the ceremony, the President and the Taoiseach will meet in the Oval Office to discuss a range of bilateral issues.
After their meeting, President Bush and Prime Minister Ahern will greet U.K. Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Peter Hain and members of Northern Ireland's civil society who are leading the way in promoting peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland.
