Holidays at the White House 2005

MRS. BUSH: This is a very fun tradition, the delivery of the Christmas tree to the White House. This is the 40th year the National Christmas Tree Growers Association has given the White House the magnificent tree -- the biggest tree there.

It started in 1966, President Johnson accepted the first tree from the National Christmas Tree Growers. And today we're accepting from the Deal Family from Laurel Springs, North Carolina, Smokey Holler Tree Farm. And I want to thank them very, very much for being a part of our Christmas this year at the White House.

We're getting ready to -- the decorators are in there right now; Santa's elves are in, decorating the White House. And all of you will get to see it in -- a day after tomorrow, I think. And so I welcome your questions then, so you can come, look at the -- look at all the decorations.

Q The theme --

MRS. BUSH: Well, all things bright and beautiful is the theme this year. I think it will be really bright and beautiful with this fabulous tree. But thank you all very much. Happy holidays. I know this is the real start of the season, the Monday after Thanksgiving, and so I want to wish everybody happy holidays. And we'll see you later this week with the White House decorations.

Thank you very much to the Deal Family. Thanks for coming.

END 10:40 A.M. EST
