Global Message

From remarks by President Bush, 10/1/03

On September 11, 2001, freedom's enemies made America a battleground. The United States refuses to live in fear. The best way to overcome fear is to be prepared and resolute at home and take the offensive abroad.

Two years ago, America was still under a national emergency and smoke was rising from Ground Zero. We do not live in the past, yet we do not forget the past or the grief that we have suffered.

On that day, we accepted a great mission which we continue now. We will do everything in our power to prevent another attack on the American people.

We will do everything in our power to find and bring our enemies to justice, from wherever they plot and plan.

Along with our allies, we are waging a global campaign against terrorist networks -- disrupting their operations, cutting off their funding, and hunting down their leaders.

If nations harbor, support or feed terrorists, they are just as guilty as the terrorists and can expect to share their fate.

The United States is committed to spreading democracy and tolerance and freedom in the Middle East.

By removing tyrants in Iraq and Afghanistan who supported terror, and by ending the hopelessness that feeds terror, we are helping the people of that region and strengthening the security of America and the world.
