Mrs. Bush to Serve as Honorary Chairman of "Concert for America"
Performing Arts Special to be hosted by NBC's Tom Brokaw; Network to air two-hour concert in commemoration of September 11 anniversary
Washington, D.C. -- Mrs. Laura Bush will serve as the honorary chairman of "Concert for America," a two-hour tribute that will be held at the Kennedy Center on September 9 and broadcast by NBC on September 11. The concert will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Towers, and the crash of United flight 93. The tribute, which is designed to honor the innocent lives lost last year and celebrate the spirit of pride and resiliency shared by Americans in the days since the attacks, will be hosted by NBC anchor Tom Brokaw.
"As we mark the first anniversary of last September's attacks, I hope the Concert for America will allow us to use the arts to soothe our emotions as we remember those whose innocent lives were tragically cut short," said Mrs. Bush. "I also look forward to an evening to celebrate the unity that makes us all proud to be Americans." Mrs. Bush is the honorary chairman of Concert for America as part of her work with the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
Details about the performers for Concert for America will be announced at a later date.
