RAMADAN 2003

For over one billion Muslims throughout the world, Ramadan is month of fasting, prayer, worship, and contemplation. During this month, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset every day. It is a time to strengthen family and community ties.

As President Bush stated in his Ramadan message, "Ramadan is the holiest season in the Islamic faith, commemorating the revelation of the Qur'an to Muhammed. This month of introspection provides Muslims a time to focus on their faith and practice God's commands."

President George W. Bush marks Eid al-Fitr, the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, with an address at the Islamic Center of Washington, D.C., Thursday, Dec. 5.
