Transition to Teaching

Efforts through the U.S. Department of Education have awarded nearly $87 million in grants available under the Transition to Teaching program to help school districts, State Educational Agencies, and institutions of higher education to recruit skilled, mid-career professionals, highly qualified paraprofessionals, and recent college graduates to become teachers in high-need schools in high-need school districts and retain them for at least three years.

The Transition to Teaching grant program also encourages the development and expansion of alternative routes to certification.  Under state-approved programs, individuals are eligible for teacher certification within a reduced period of time, relying on the experience, expertise, academic background, and other qualifications of the individual, in lieu of traditional course work.
