Monarch butterflies gather at President Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, Aug. 25, 2007. Migrating to Mexico for the winter, the butterflies eat nectar and water. Larvae feed on milkweed. Their migration can span 3,000 miles. On average, it takes about two months for them to fly the equivalent distance of traveling from Washington, D.C., to Mexico.
