Arts, Culture and White House Social Events

Official Social Events at the White House

An important part of the role of a president and his or her spouse is to welcome national and international dignitaries to the White House on behalf of all Americans. President Bush and Mrs. Bush, assisted by the Social Secretary, White House chefs, butlers, floral designers, and military aides, host a great variety of events in honor of heads of state and others who have distinguished themselves in their fields.

The President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities
Mrs. Bush is the Honorary Chair of The President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, which identifies and develops initiatives that contribute to the vibrancy of the arts and the strength of democracy. The committee focuses on four areas - International Cultural Understanding; Youth Arts and Humanities Learning; Preservation; and Special Initiatives and Events. The committee collaborates with their cultural partners, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
