Q: How does GAO interact with agencies?
A: GAO is committed to maintaining constructive and continuing communications with agencies including, as facts and circumstances warrant, meetings with the Comptroller General or GAO's Chief Operating Officer and heads of agencies or their designees to discuss areas of mutual interest and concern. Other forms of communication include periodic meetings with agency leadership and executives and specific communications with an agency pertaining to planned and ongoing work. GAO's agency protocols, which have been widely circulated in an exposure draft that is to be finalized later this year, are intended to clearly identify what agencies can expect from GAO and what GAO expects from agencies.
