  2. BILL TITLE: Santo Domingo Pueblo Claims Settlement Act of 2000


  3. BILL PURPOSE: (1) Removes the cloud on titles to land in the State of New Mexico resulting from the claims of the Pueblo of Santo Domingo against the United States and third parties; (2) restores certain lands to the Pueblo and confirms its boundaries; (3) clarifies governmental jurisdiction over the lands within the Pueblo's land claim area; (4) ratifies a settlement agreement between the United States and the Pueblo; and (5) extinguishes certain land claims of the Pueblo against the United States, the State of New Mexico, and other landowners.
  4. OMB ESTIMATE: P.L. 106-425 ratifies a settlement agreement entered into by the Departments of Justice, the Interior, and Agriculture with the Pueblo of Santo Domingo. Under the agreement, the Federal Government will pay $8 million to the tribe from the Judgment Fund in 2001. Congressional approval of the settlement is necessary for this payment.
