Description: The Hardwood Tree Improvement and Regeneration Center (HTIRC) is a national center for hardwood stewardship designed to promote the management, protection and wise utilization of America's hardwoods. The HTIRC, in partnership with Purdue University at West Lafayette, Indiana provides improved fine hardwood trees, technologies for their production, and guidance for hardwood plantation establishment and management for private landowners. This research results in increased quality and quantity of our Nation's fine hardwood forests that helps to maintain vital forest products industries and associated jobs in America. The HTIRC directly addresses the 'Social Dynamics and Resource Use' 'Big Science' Theme of the Research and Development mission area of the USDA Forest Service.
