Description: The Joe Skeen Institute for Rangeland Restoration is a consortium of three institutions: Montana State University, New Mexico State University, and Texas A&M University in partnership with the USDA-USFS Rocky Mountain Research Station and the USDA Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service. The institute's mission is to conduct research and education programs for the purposes of facilitating and expanding ongoing state-federal agricultural research, education and extension programs that enhance sustainable rangeland, livestock, and associated natural resources management systems to meet emerging and future needs of the western U.S. Collaborative joint projects are encouraged to meet the intent of the Farm Bill language. The language in Sec. 1480 says the following about Rangeland Research Grants: '(2) the Joe Skeen Institute for Rangeland Restoration for the purposes of facilitating and expanding ongoing State-Federal range management, animal husbandry, and agricultural research, education, and extension programs to meet the targeted emerging, and future needs of western United States rangeland and associated natural resources.'
