Description: 2005 is the first year of this two-year study designed to predict the impacts of high intensity rainfall and flooding in steep mountain landscapes. Further, the study will provide recommendations to help reduce property loss and protect lives. The Appalachian Mountains in West Virginia and surrounding region have a history of catastrophic flooding and high-impact damages during high intensity rainfall events. 2006 will be the last year of this study. Funds help support one scientists in NRS 4353 ($127,000) and one scientist for the West Virginia Department of Conservation ($100,000) through a cooperative agreement. Results of the study will be published in FY 2007.
