Spartina Control at Willapa NWR

Year Enacted: 2005
Description: The partners program received funding of $700,000 (adjusted by rescission) for spartina control and fund targeted the money to Willapa National Wildlife Service (NWR). Funds support an effort to eradicate the invasive specie, Spartina Grass, from the Willapa Bay, and restore the tidal mudflats and estuarine habitat for shorebirds, salmon, and other wildlife. Work is accomplished through a cooperative effort with Nature Conservancy, Washington State, the oyster industry, and the Willapa NWR. Specifically, the funding is used to purchase equipment, herbicide, and fuel.
