Description: A research agrement was awarded to Morgan State University under NNL05AA17A in the amount of $2.956M for applied research in the field of computer sciences. The objective of the proposed research is the implementation of the Chesapeake Information Based Aeronautics Consortium (CIBAC) consisting of: Morgan State University, Bowie State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The CIBAC will develop computational tools that can be employed to advance the understanding of the fundamental cause of aircraft accidents. They will also research the area of computationally based intelligent systems for health monitoring of aircraft. This continuous monitoring and recording of the structural health and critical performance aspect of an aircraft could annunciate conditions likely to cause an accident and repairs could be implemented prior to an accident occurring. Combining the assets of these three universities will significantly improve the research capability in this area of interest.
