Description: The purpose of the grant project is to build capacity in the Alaska Youth Court and Community Panel Program (AYCCP Program) through the enhancement of existing youth courts and community panels and expansion of the program into other communities around the State. This project will provide increased resources to address juvenile crime at the front end of the service continuum, providing a timely and appropriate response to nonviolent first and second time misdemeanor offenders that will reduce the likelihood of further penetration into the juvenile justice system. The performance measures Alaska's Department of Health and Social Services include reduced rearrest of offenders, reduced victimization, and the number and percent of communities establishing a youth court or community panel. OJJDP develops and implements effective programs for juveniles in an effort to prevent acts of delinquency in an effort to improve the juvenile justice system. The Alaska Youth court Program is such a state program administered and operated now in fourteen jurisdictions in the State of Alaska.
