Description: Achieving Student Success: Interventions, Support, and Teamwork¿ (ASSIST) will serve students in six elementary schools, two junior high schools, and two high schools administered by Granite School District in Kearns and West Valley City, Utah. ASSIST will strive toward three critical goals as steppingstones toward its broad purpose of improving support in the school environment for low-achieving students: (1) Reduce violence among students in target schools by improving children's ability to manage conflicts and appropriately respond to adverse environmental stimuli; (2)establish School/Student Achievement Plan (SSAP) Support Teams to be launched in each target school to remove barriers to students' learning; (3) Strengthen GSD families, improving parents¿ capacity to support their children academically through education regarding family leadership, communication, and mentoring; and (2) orientation on principles of parent support and student behavior. ASSIST leaders have specified objectives, activities, and benchmarks within each goal and have secured the services of an external evaluator to monitor progress toward each. Goals 1 & 2 will serve to combat factors that contribute to juvenile delinquency and child maltreatment at school; Goal 3 addresses similar factors in students' homes.
