Description: The USTA Tennis & Education Foundation (USTA T&EF) will implement a national initiative called Aces for Kids, a community based, after-school and out-of-school programs that encourage healthy lifestyles, tennis, and life skills in a safe, nurturing environment. Aces for Kids will serve at-risk children between the ages of 5-18, particularly those in lower income communities. The USTA T&EF will make twenty sub-awards to selected nonprofit organizations that will, in turn, implement Aces for Kids programs across the United States. The USTA T&EF will serve as the overseer of services and will coordinate existing community resources to provide quality after-school programming, mentoring programs, literacy development, computer technology, and sports programs for disadvantaged youth. In addition, the Foundation will work with its programs to promote capacity building, specifically in the areas of sustainability and leveraging of other funding sources, as well as the development of best practices for operations. The curriculum of the selected programs is designed to improve school attendance and prevent substance abuse, violence and school dropouts. Sub-grantees will collect data on five (5) performance measures, including the number of books read by program participants, the results from pre and post tests given to participants, mentors and tutors regarding the participants¿ school performance, goal setting, problem solving and self-esteem. Sub-grantees will report to the USTA T&EF who will, in turn, submit categorical progress reports in GMS.
