Description: The Southern Queens Park Association will implement Project ReConnect which will serve 100 adolescents ages 16-18 in New York City. Project ReConnect will assist youth that have dropped out of high school either re-enroll in high school or get their GED. The goal of the program is to have each student either (1) enroll in college, (2) complete a vocational training program, (3) enter the workforce, (4) obtaining apprenticeships in construction or building trades, or (5) enlist in the armed forces. Project ReConnect will provide academic services to help prepare youth for completing high school or passing the GED exam. The program will provide tours of local colleges and test preparation for the SATs and ACTs. Project ReConnect will also provide job placement services and summer employment for program participants that choose not to pursue post-secondary educational opportunities. The program plans to reduce juvenile delinquency by helping youth in the program become productive members of the local community by either continuing their education or finding a successful job. The program will submit categorical assistance progress reports in GMS that will report on seven (7) performance measures including: the number of students that return to high school, the number of students that receive their GED and the number of students that enroll in college. In addition to these performance measures the program will maintain employment and academic record files on each program participant.
