Description: Boricua College, in collaboration with the Commissioner of the New York State Education Department, has provided the opportunity for students who do not have a high school diploma or a G.E.D. to enter into institutions of higher education to pursue college level work. This project ¿Project Success/College Prep¿ will identify 150 high school drop outs from the North Brooklyn communities of Williamsburg, Green point, Bushwick and Bedford-Stuyvesant by providing educational opportunities, counseling, experiential learning, positive role models, and training towards college admission and the workplace. The College¿s academic planners will plan a program curriculum using five ways learning models:1) individualized instruction for intellectual development; 2) small group colloquia for affective development and enhancement of values; 3) experiential studies laboratories; 4) theoretical studies and 5) cultural and language studies. The program year will consist of three 13 week cycles of instruction with a cohort of 12-17 students assigned to a faculty facilitator who will be responsible for the oversight of their educational process. Of the 150 participants in the program 80% will demonstrate improved subject competency; 80% will pass the GED or Ability to Benefit exam within the first year; 80% will meet the requirements for admission into college; 75% will receive an AA degree within three years; 80% will receive a BA/BS within three years, and 10-15% who complete one cycle will receive a Baccalaureate degree within 6 years, and 90% will not have become involved in criminal activity throughout their duration of the program.
