Description: The Fortune Society will provide outreach counseling services to ex-prisoner parents and their children in hopes of reducing recidivism rates for offenders, breaking the cycle of crime within families, and increasing the ability for previously incarcerated adults to raise their children properly. The Fortune Society will offer life skills workshops, parenting/family workshops, support groups, legal counseling and services to achieve family self-sufficiency. The Fortune Society will realize these goals by achieving: 1) participation of at least 30 ex-prisoner parents and their children; 2) the resolution of crisis situations for at least 15 participants; 3) increased knowledge of parenting and life skills for at least 13 participants as measured by pre and post tests; 4) increased employment among participants; and 5) at least 6 months of sobriety for 10 or more participants.
